10 Years and Counting

Today is our 10 year wedding anniversary. Jon and I went out for a lovely dinner together. One highlight was buying a 1999 Shiraz to enjoy with dinner. We decided we should do that every 10 years or so. It was neat. Anyway, the restaurant had special menues for us and a card signed by the staff. It was just a lovely 2 hour leisurely meal together. We spent the time talking about the past 10 years, just kind of walking through each year and talking about where we lived, what we were doing, what were highs and lows. It was so fun.

I can hardly believe 10 years have come and gone so fast. Although when I think about how much we have done in our marriage so far it seems like it must be 10 years. I am just shocked by how much we've done and how much change we have encountered. I once heard it said that we often over estimate what we can do in 5 years and under estimate what we can do in 10. Well, that sounds about right because the past 10 years have been big ones for us. Here's a bit of what we've been up to since July 31, 1999:

SCHOOL: med school, seminary (AMBS & CTS), surgery internship, ansesthesiology residency, pain management fellowship

JOBS: Mandy's job at Damon Corp, Mandy's job at the Jewish Community Center, Mandy's job at the Homeless Initiative Program, Mandy's job at First Menno, Mandy's Job at Belmont Menno, Jon's internship, Jon's residency, and Jon's fellowship

KIDS: zero for 8 years --> Noah (in 2007)--> Noah & Anna (in 2009)

MOVES: Goshen --> South Bend --> Indy apartment --> Indy house --> Indy transitional apartment --> Goshen house

CARS: Toyota Camry -->got Ford Tempo --> sold Tempo --> got Ford Escort -->sold Escort -->got G35 --> sold Camry --> got F150

CHURCH: Kern Road --> First Menno, Indy -->Belmont Mennonite

It's been a busy 10 years. It's been a great 10 years, but a busy 10 years. I think we're both hoping that when we sit down at the restaurant for our 20 year anniversary we find ourselves still living in the same town, in the same house, with the same 2 kids, and still at the same jobs...still happily married to the same spouse.

Love you, Jon. Here's to the next 10!

That sounds like an awesome anniversary date. Where did you go that they made up special menus for the two of you? And, by the way, you look absolutely stunning!!
